Sportsters up for Best Sports Bar at 2017 SLTN Awards

After another fantastic year for Castle Leisure Group (CLG), the company have three venues nominated for a total of four awards at the 2017 Scottish Licenced Trade News Awards. This year Sportsters is up for Best Sports Bar, while Harlem and Fubar are both up for the Social Responsibility Award. On top of this, Fubar is also nominated for Nightclub of the Year.

As one of the most highly regarded awards in the industry, the nominations show the drive for excellence that these venues have achieved and that all their venues continually strive for.

“We are delighted to have four nominations at the 2017 SLTN Awards” said Tracey McRorie, Commercial Director of CLG. “The three venues that have received Highly Commended status have done fantastically well this year and are a credit to the company. We’ve got our fingers crossed that we can build on the victory from last year and come away with some more awards.”

At the 2016 awards, Sportsters was the only winner on the night after picking up the Social Responsibility Award. However, they’ll be hoping to win back their crown of Best Sports Bar with Fubar also looking to build upon their Highly Commended status in the Nightclub of the year category from last year.

On top of maintaining some of the biggest and best licenced venues in Scotland, CLG has also opened one of the biggest bars ever in Edinburgh, Brewhemia. Located on Market Street, opposite Waverley Station, the venue is 29,000 square feet and poses a paradigm shift in food, drinks and entertainment since opening in July this year.

“It has been an incredible year as a company. An unbelievable amount of work and talent has gone in to making Brewhemia the success it has become. We are always striving to make improvements where possible but we are achieving what we set out to create. Guests are coming in, being blown away by the venue, and we’re seeing them return with family or other groups of friends.

“In particular, we’ve had rave reviews about the entertainment provided and this is a huge part of what makes Brewhemia so unique. Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we’ve got live music and entertainment for guests to enjoy and to get involved with. Whether it’s a quieter Sunday Brunch with some live jazz or dancing on the benches on a Saturday night to our house band.”

With the successful launch of Brewhemia, other projects are now being discussed as CLG looks to cement itself as one of the market leaders in the Scottish hospitality industry. “We’ve got big plans for the future but right now we are focussed on maintaining the excellent standards that our venues have set” said Tracey. “The employees have been fundamental in helping us achieve this success and we can’t wait for what the future holds.”

New menu launched

CLICK HERE TO BOOK A TABLE.

Sportsters is delighted to launch a fantastic new main menu, just in time for Summer. With that in mind, we’ve added a number of new dishes that are perfect for the warmer weather. Plus, we’re delighted that our menu will also include a new wine offering with our staff happy to help with suggestions.

While maintaining some favourite dishes such as Cajun Chicken Crepes and Burgers, we’ve added a variety of new dishes for each course. This includes starters such as Beer Soup, Garlic & Chilli King Prawns, and Grilled Halloumi with Med Veg. New mains include some classic dishes such as Mussels, Pork Belly, and a Brisket Sandwich. Finally, we’ve got a variety of new desserts such as Hot Homemade Cookie Dough, Nutella Belgian Waffles, and Cranachan, Raspberry & Drambuie.

Daniel McCue, Manager of Sportsters, said: “We’re thrilled to launch our brand new menu today. It has been months in the making with a lot of hard work from our team but we’re delighted that it’s now time to show what we’ve accomplished.

“While we have kept a lot of favourites, we certainly hope that our menu will attract new customers to come to Sportsters and try what we’re offering. We always say that we are much more than a sports bar. I think today’s menu proves that and shows we take delivering high-quality food very seriously. It also shows that we are committed to raising the bar in terms of the offering we provide.”

The new menu is also perfect for sharing with options such as Melted Gruyere and a Butchers Board. This is something Daniel believes people will take advantage of. “We really want to encourage people to come in and enjoy our food, no matter what the occasion” he said. “If it’s a family celebration or just a couple of friends coming for a catch-up, there is something for everyone. For example, we have a Cheese Board that with a glass of wine would be perfect for the summer ahead. With some big football matches in the coming weeks as well, we’ll hope to perhaps see customers having a couple of ice cold pints with a Butchers Board to share. Even if it’s something to enjoy at the bar itself, we’ll be happy to accommodate.”

Finally, it has also been confirmed that the menus will now be disposable, meaning each customer will get a fresh menu each time they visit. This also means that changes and additions can be expected more regularly. “Every month or so we’ll have the opportunity to change and adapt our menu which is really great for everyone. It means that we’ll be able to add seasonal dishes or even change up a dish completely. It means that customers will get the freshest dishes possible and also can expect a variety of options each time they visit.”

The menu launches today at 12pm and you can book in to try it by clicking here.

Sportsters voted Best Sports Bar in Scotland

It was another successful evening for Sportsters Falkirk in the hospitality industry as they picked up the Best Sports Bar award at the Scottish Entertainment & Hospitality Awards 2017. They fought off tough opposition from across Scotland to scoop the award at Merchant Square in Glasgow on Sunday evening.

Daniel McCue, Manager of Sportsters, said: “It’s amazing to have won this. We were up against four really good venues but we’re delighted that our hard work and dedication has paid off. We’ve got a great team at Sportsters and we’re seeing the results at award ceremonies like this time and time again.”

Sunday’s win follows victories for Sportsters at both the Scottish Licensed Trade News Awards (SLTN) where they won the Social Responsibility Award in 2016 and at Best Bar None (BBN) Scotland 2017 where they received the first ever Platinum Award for continued excellence.

“To have our work recognised by so many industry experts is a real testament to us” added Daniel. “Not only are we having success at multiple ceremonies but we’re also proving ourselves for the variety of work we do. While we believe we’re Scotland’s best Sports Bar, we’re showing that we’re much more than that with our work in striving to be responsible for our customers and doing that to the highest and most consistent level possible.”

These awards mean that customers can be assured of a high-quality experience whatever time of the day they visit. This is something that Daniel takes very seriously, saying: “We’ve got a really busy schedule right now, especially with the end of the football season fast approaching. Even when we are busy, giving all customers a great experience is paramount. Our commitment to being responsible as a venue also means that if customers do come to enjoy our later licenses, they can be assured it’ll be a fun and safe night.”

Sportsters will most likely be up for more awards in the future, but Daniel insists that isn’t the main focus right now. “We’ve got a really busy schedule in terms of sport and a new menu that’s coming soon. We’re focussed on getting these things right and giving our customers a great experience. If we do that, like we’ve been doing, the awards will come.”

Sportsters makes history at Best Bar None

It was a historic evening for Sportsters Falkirk last week as they claimed the first ever Platinum Award at the Best Bar None Scotland 2016-17 National Awards. The status award was introduced for the first time this year and was presented to Sportsters as part of their continued excellence.

Daniel McCue, General Manager of Sportsters, said “We are delighted to have received this award. We as a team have worked hard for a number of years now with Best Bar None (BBN) to provide the best customer experience possible. To have that work and dedication recognised with such an award is a great privilege for us.”

Chris McGovern, Sales Manager of Chivas Brothers-Pernod Ricard who supported the award, said “The venues strike a really positive balance between their Social Responsibility and Conviviality which is key to the success of their businesses.”

Sportsters was also a finalist in the Best Bar and Innovation in Social Responsibility categories, but unfortunately didn’t walk away as winners.

“We would have loved to have won these awards, but we’re delighted to have been finalists” said Daniel. “To be finalists in two categories and to come away as winners of the first ever Platinum award is a fantastic achievement. We’re delighted.”

It also may not be the last award that Sportsters’ collects this year. They are a finalist for Best Sports Bar at the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards which is held next month and this follows on from the Social Responsibility Award won at the 2016 SLTN Awards.

“To have won and be up for so many awards is fantastic and we’re proud of the work we’re doing for the community and our customers” said Daniel. “We’ll aim to continue the work we’ve done so far and to continue pushing ourselves to the highest level possible.”
